Rocket Foods Dessert Pots

Helping Rocket Foods bring its Dessert Pots to life with packaging designed to protect quality, inspire confidence, and shine on the shelf.

Say Hello to Rocket Foods

Rocket Foods is a New Zealand-owned and operated food manufacturer based in Auckland, built on a simple belief: great food should be made with care, consistency and real ingredients people can trust. For more than 25 years, the business has grown by creating sweet and savoury baked goods that bring quality, convenience and everyday enjoyment to customers around New Zealand.

When Rocket Foods created its new Dessert Pots range, the packaging needed to do more than hold the product. It needed to help tell the story of the dessert inside: fresh, appealing, carefully made and ready to enjoy. Every detail mattered, from protection and handling through to the moment a customer first sees the product on the shelf.

Solving a Packaging Puzzle

In chilled desserts, packaging has the power to turn a good product into a confident retail experience. It must protect the food, present it beautifully, perform consistently in production, and create an instant sense of appetite appeal. For Rocket Foods, the right packaging would help every Dessert Pot arrive looking as good as it was made to taste.

The team wanted a clear, reliable solution that gave customers a tempting view of the product while keeping every dessert protected, fresh, and easy to handle. Just as importantly, it needed to support the people behind the scenes, giving the production team packaging they could count on day after day.

“Another supplier put us onto Bonson, and they came highly recommended. When we looked at their packaging, it just ticked every single box for us – it’s food-safe, looks great, holds up perfectly, and offers really good value.”
– Manesha Ababa, Chief Operating Officer, Rocket Foods

The Tub That Ticked Every Box

Bonson’s introduction to Rocket Foods opened the door to conversations about what results great packaging could make possible. Bonson presented a range of small-format tubs and meal tray options, and the Dessert Pots opportunity quickly became a chance to match a quality product with a format that could help it shine.

The selected container gave Rocket Foods the balance it was looking for: clarity, strength, presentation, stackability, and practical handling. By testing the packaging in real production and presentation settings, the team could move forward with confidence, knowing the format supported both the product and the people bringing it to market.

“Packaging protects what it sells and sells what it protects. It needs to function well, enabling the product to be delivered to shelf and then to the customer in perfect condition, creating the ultimate experience for the consumer.”
– David McNickle, Business Development Manager, Bonson

Why Tamper Evidence Mattered

For the Dessert Pots range, a tamper-evident container offered a simple, integrated sealing solution. The tamper-evident closure provides a visible seal without the need for a separate foil seal or over-lid, while also contributing an additional level of oxygen protection. By removing these extra packaging components, the format simplifies the pack, supports efficient handling, and gives consumers clear confidence that the product has remained intact.

The tamper-evident format was also well suited to Rocket Foods’ smaller production runs. Although foil sealing can provide a strong barrier, it may require additional investment in sealing plates and nesting equipment. Choosing an integrated tamper-evident container reduced that set-up burden while delivering the protection, presentation and production practicality the project required.

A Partnership with Plenty of Proof

For Rocket Foods, the process became more than a packaging selection. It was a partnership built around understanding the product, the production environment and the ambition behind the new range. Bonson took the time to listen, explore options and help identify a solution that could support Rocket Foods from concept through to shelf.

That consultative approach helped ensure the final packaging worked across the full journey: filling, stacking, shipping, shelf display, product protection and consumer use. Strength, consistency and stackability were not just technical features; they were the details that helped create a smoother workflow and a more confidently finished product experience.

Results Good Enough to Dig Into

The Dessert Pots range now has packaging that helps Rocket Foods put its best work forward. The container showcases the dessert clearly, protects the product from production to purchase, and gives the team a reliable format that can support the range as it continues to grow.

  • Clear presentation that showcases the product and supports shelf appeal.
  • Food-safe packaging that looks great and holds up reliably.
  • Strong protection to help products reach customers in excellent condition.
  • Stackable, predictable performance that supports efficient daily operations.
  • Practical packaging that helps reduce product damage and food waste.
  • Good value without compromising functionality or presentation.

Packaging That Pulls Its Weight

For Rocket Foods, sustainability starts with practical choices that make a real difference. Effective packaging helps reduce damage and food waste while still meeting the essential needs of food safety, affordability, and performance. In this way, the right packaging becomes part of a bigger promise: protecting the food, supporting the brand and helping customers enjoy the product exactly as intended.

As Rocket Foods continues to grow and explore new product opportunities, Bonson is positioned as a trusted packaging partner ready to support what comes next. With knowledge, responsiveness and a shared focus on practical performance, the partnership gives Rocket Foods the confidence to keep creating products that look great, travel well and arrive ready to delight customers.
